In 2010 the IEEE Malta Section organised the 15th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON), which is a major international forum presenting design methodologies, techniques and experimental results in emerging electro-technologies. MELECON is one of the flagship conferences of the IEEE Region 8 with participants from all over the world. The section also supports other international conferences and workshops organised and hosted locally. Amongst these one may mention: IWBF 2014 2nd International Workshop on Biometrics and Forensics and the 2014 Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP) Conference.
In 2011 the IEEE Malta Section signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chamber of Engineers (Malta). Although an understanding already existed between the CoE and IEEE Malta Section, this MoU serves as a more tangible point of reference for a healthier professional relationship.
The IEEE Malta Section also works closely with the IEEE Malta Student Branch which organises a number of events throughout the year for its student members. Amongst these one may mention the Student Professional Awareness Conference (SPAC), Robot Wars and the Awards Night.
