SUMMARY:Science in the City 2026
DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Malta Section actively participates in Science in the City\, Malta’s national Science and Arts Festival and part of the European Researchers’ Night initiative. The festival transforms Valletta into a vibrant hub of science\, technology\, innovation\, creativity and public engagement\, attracting thousands of visitors each year. \nThrough its participation\, IEEE Malta helps bring engineering\, computing and emerging technologies closer to the public by showcasing how technology shapes everyday life and contributes to solving real-world challenges. The Section engages with students\, families\, educators\, researchers and industry professionals through interactive exhibits\, demonstrations\, talks and hands-on activities designed to inspire curiosity and promote STEM careers. \nScience in the City aims to make science accessible\, engaging and relevant to society by combining research\, technology\, culture and the arts. IEEE Malta’s involvement aligns closely with IEEE’s mission of “Advancing Technology for Humanity”\, providing opportunities to demonstrate how engineering and computing innovations contribute to economic growth\, sustainability and societal wellbeing. \nParticipation in Science in the City also enables IEEE Malta volunteers and members to: \n\nPromote engineering and computing careers to young people.\nInspire the next generation of innovators\, researchers and technology leaders.\nDemonstrate practical applications of emerging technologies.\nIncrease public awareness of the role of engineering and computing in society.\nStrengthen collaboration between academia\, industry\, government and the wider community.\nShowcase the work of IEEE members and local technology initiatives.\n\nAs one of Malta’s most significant science outreach events\, Science in the City provides an important platform for IEEE Malta to engage with the community\, encourage lifelong learning and foster greater interest in science\, technology\, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Through these activities\, IEEE Malta contributes to building a stronger culture of innovation\, creativity and technological excellence across the Maltese Islands.
